Night Before the 4th!

Walpole celebrates Independence Day 2023

Walpole continued its longstanding tradition on Monday evening by celebrating Independence Day with its Night Before the 4th Celebration, the town’s signature event since 1957.

As has been the case for decades, the event featured the firetruck parade, bandstand music, refreshments, and novelty vendors all leading up to the main event: the spectacular fireworks display. The crowd numbered in the thousands, with many residents from neighboring towns visiting Walpole to join in the celebration.

Morning clouds and drizzle gave way to a beautiful summer evening for the parade and festivities. A few sprinkles of rain appeared as the first pyrotechnic lit up the sky, but by the time the 25-minute light spectacle ended, the clouds broke to reveal a beautiful rising full moon, the first of four “super moons” to occur in 2023.

This grandest of Walpole traditions is hosted by the Walpole Fire Department and is entirely funded by donations received from the public. It’s never too early to donate for next year!

Please offer your donations at the Walpole Fire Station located at 20 Stone Street, or visit the event Facebook page for more ways to donate:
