A Guide to Parking in Downtown Walpole
Summer is almost here, and you’ll want to take advantage of everything downtown Walpole has to offer, such as the many fine establishments for eating, shopping, and service, as well as enjoy the beautiful public areas as the weather (finally!) gets nicer. Whether you’re new to town, or just unsure where you can and cannot park, this guide will help you navigate parking in the downtown area with confidence. Maps are included at different scales to give the big picture of the parking layout as well as closer views of walkways that connect parking to local businesses.

There are five main public parking areas in the downtown area that provide around 450 parking spaces, plus public parking on Main Street and most of its adjacent side streets that can accommodate a couple hundred more. Parking in downtown Walpole is free at all public locations. There are also several commercially and privately owned parking areas intended specifically for local patrons or residents. Additionally, there are multiple MBTA lots that require a fee for train station parking.
Daytime parking is widely available on the two primary downtown lots: the Main Municipal Lot and the Glenwood Ave Lot. Space availability on the other public lots generally improves in the evening when their associated facilities have less activities; these include the Public Library lot (and adjacent Blackburn Hall), the Town Hall parking lot, and the Town Pool parking lot which also serves the adjacent Carolyn Woodward Playground and Joe Morgan Field.

Public Parking Lots
Main Municipal Lot (130 parking spaces). This is the largest public parking lot immediately adjacent to Main Street. It provides easy access to downtown businesses from Stone Street northward to East Street, and a little less conveniently to businesses from Stone Street to Common Street and beyond. Patrons of the latter typically look for street parking along Main Street and Common Street. The Main Municipal Lot is accessible by car from East Street and from Stone Street using the access road that runs between the Fire/Rescue Station and Blackburn Hall.
There are three walkways providing access to and from Main Street. The most direct walkway is adjacent to the Donahue Real Estate building and is recognizable by the “Greetings From Walpole” mural painted in 2025 which adorns the alleyway. Mural lighting added in 2026 provides for a more brightly lit passage during the evening and at night. There is a second, more narrow walkway on the other side of the Donahue building, closer to the restricted Fire & Rescue Station parking area. The third walkway runs between the Old Town Hall and Jalapeno’s Restaurant. This walkway was beautified in recent years to include a new walking surface and adjacent benches. From Main Street, this walkway provides direct access to Jalapeno’s outdoor dining area.
Glenwood Ave Lot (72 parking spaces): This lot is located behind the commercial property on the west side of Main Street, opposite the Municipal Lot. Driving access is via Glenwood Avenue which is a one-way road that runs next to Delux Tux from the intersection of Main, Stone, and West Streets. The irregular shape of the lot and narrow passages make it somewhat tight to navigate, so drive carefully. A number of spacesare reserved, so check for signs! The primary pedestrian access to Main Street is the walkway next to 961 Main Street, the building housing Norwell Insurance Agency and Peter’s Barber Shop. A second walkway is accessible from the northern edge of the lot adjacent to the former Bank of America building.
Town Hall Lot (140 parking spaces): This lot is located behind the Town Hall with access by car from School Street and via access roads running from the Main Municipal Lot past Blackburn Hall and from the Library Parking Lot (which is accessible from Stone Street.) In addition to parking for Town Hall business, it is also used as parking for athletic activities held on adjacent Stone Field. As such, parking space demand is higher during the day when the Town Hall is open (generally 8 AM to 4 PM weekdays). Several additional parking spaces along the accessway adjacent to Blackburn Hall which are also in higher demand during the day and more readily available after business hours.
Library Lot (63 parking spaces): This lot is accessible via Stone Street. As expected, demand is highest when the library is open; summer hours are Monday-Thursday (9:30 AM to 9:00 PM) and Friday (9:30 AM to 5:00 PM). Saturday hours from September through May are 9:30 to 3:00 PM. The library is closed on Sundays throughout the year.
Pool/Playground/Baseball Lot (66 parking spaces): This lot is located between the Walpole Center Swimming Pool, the Carolyn Woodward Memorial Playground, and Morgan Field. Demand for parking spaces varies with the associated activities. The pool opens in mid-June when school lets out and remains open through late August. The playground is busiest on nice weather days from spring through fall. And baseball games at Morgan Field are held mostly Monday through Thursday starting at around 5 PM from late April through June.
Memorial Pond Parking (10-15 parking spaces): This is an unpaved area next to the Memorial Pond which is typically used by people visiting the pond to enjoy the picnic tables, fish or view from the adjacent pier, or hike along the trail along the south side of the pond.
Commercial/Residential Lots
There are a number of downtown lots that are not publicly owned but provide business and residential parking.
CVS/Sherwood Plaza: This large commercial lot services CVS and three other commercial buildings that house more than a dozen businesses. These three buildings were originally referred to as “Sherwood Plaza” when they were constructed in the 1960s.
Liberty Station: These private apartments have their own interior and adjacent lots that are not available to the public. However, public parking spaces are available on the adjacent roads (Glenwood Ave, East Street, Elm Street).
Walpole Business Center: Located across East Street from Liberty Station, the business center has parking available intended for its commercial establishments.
Walpole Cooperative Bank: This is commercial parking off of Stone Street intended for bank customers only.
Union & West: Located on West Street, a privately owned parking lot is available for residents only. This lot was formerly owned by the MBTA and used as train commuter parking for a fee. There are several “visitor” parking spots however.
Train/MBTA Parking: There are several lots designated for train station parking: two on Elm Street, one on Spring Street, and one at the train station itself. Parking requires a fee during train operating hours.
Remember to respect private lots and all posted restrictions. Enjoy your time in downtown Walpole!
