Main Street Mural Update
Project reaches artist proposal stage

Thanks to the tremendous support from local businesses and community members, the downtown mural campaign organized by Destination Downtown has advanced to the artist proposal stage — a major milestone in bringing this vibrant project to life. Details of the project can be viewed here. A Request For Proposal (RFP) was released on January 30th; prospective artists have until February 27th to submit a proposal. Over a dozen proposals have already been received and there is still time for more to submit their ideas. Any mural artists interested in being considered for the project can receive RFP information by contacting Destination Downtown at hello@walpoledowntown.org.

On March 4 at 7 PM, Destination Downtown will be hosting a community event at the Walpole Public Library where everyone can check out the submitted proposals and share their thoughts There the public will be able to offer their preferences on the mural’s thematic approach to portraying our community. A mural selection committee will assess the various submissions to select three finalist proposals. The finalists will create detailed sketches of their designs which will be shared at a second community event in early April. After gathering feedback, the mural committee will re-convene to select the winning artist by April 8. Actual mural implementation will take place over the following weeks, with the hope (weather permitting!) that the completed project can be celebrated at Walpole Day on May 10.
Beyond the mural itself, Destination Downtown will also initiate an effort to improve the landscaping in the space adjacent to the mural site, which is the access alleyway that connects the large public parking lot to downtown businesses. The organization is grateful for the support received so far, but there’s more to do yet! Fundraising will continue throughout the winter and spring.
