Downtown Mural Campaign Update

Initial online campaign a success

18 December 2024

Destination Downtown’s initial online campaign to raise funds to support the installation of murals in the alleyways off Main Street in Downtown Walpole was a resounding success! We thank all who contributed to the campaign! Our goal was to raise $5,000 on the Patronicity crowdfunding platform. The campaign started on Oct. 24th with a bang with a total of $2,700 in donations, $2000 of which was generously donated by Donnell Murphy. We closed out the online campaign on Dec. 6 with a total of $5,225, meeting our initial goal!

Contributions also came offline from donors in the amount of $2,900 which included two $500 grants, one from Walpole Co-Op Bank and the other from Middlesex Savings Bank. S.M. Lorusso also made a generous $1,500 donation. Currently our contribution grand total is $8,125!

Anne Marie Kenney, winner of Kosmos gift certificate

We have submitted grant applications to the Walpole Cultural Council and Dedham Savings Bank and anticipate receiving notification about any grant awards in the coming months. We know the project will ultimately have expenses of $10,000 to $15,000 to cover the costs associated with the mural project including the artist’s fees, supplies, paint and brushes, etc. In addition to activating the alleyways with a colorful and creative mural, we envision other amenities in the alleyway such as sitting benches, bistro lighting, sculptures and flower planters.

Twenty donors gave $100 or more and will receive a free T-shirt featuring the completed design of the mural on their T-shirt which will be awarded at an unveiling “ribbon-cutting” in the spring of 2025, when the mural is completed. It’s not too late to join them! While supplies last, any contribution of $100 or more will include this exclusive t-shirt showcasing the stunning mural design.

Daughter Fiona with husband Peter accept necklace prize on behalf of Patricia Crowley

Twenty-seven donors gave $50 or more which made them all eligible for a free $100 gift certificate to a downtown Walpole restaurant of their choice. The winner was Ann Marie Kenney of Walpole and she chose Kosmos restaurant. She said that Kosmos is one of the best local restaurants.

Patricia Crowley from the soon-to-open Blondie’s Barbecue, located on Route 1 in Walpole (formerly Red Wing Diner) won the beautiful diamond piece necklace from downtown Walpole’s Hefez and Sons Jewelers for their $250 donation. Her daughter Fiona “Blondie” and husband Peter accepted the necklace on her behalf. We are so grateful to Hefez and Sons for their generous donation!
