Vincenzo’s Italian Deli Opens

Downtown Walpole’s newest culinary option

A touch of Italy recently arrived in downtown Walpole with the late October opening of Vincenzo’s Italian Deli at 975 Main Street.

As another diverse addition to downtown Walpole’s heaping serving of places to eat (twelve of them in a two-block radius at this point), Vincenzo’s takes over the former First Sandwich Shop storefront, offering high-quality specialty cheeses, meats, and other items. The interior has received an extreme makeover, transforming from the classic, old school hometown sandwich shop look of First Sandwich Shop into an authentic Italian deli that would fit in well in Italy.

“I always loved the delis or markets in Italy,” said Giuseppe Musto, an Avellino, Italy native who owns and operates Vincenzo’s with his wife, Marcella. “The markets in Italy have delicious meats, cheese and made-to-order sandwiches. They also carry all the groceries we have. Not everyone has homemade mozzarella here and I thought it would be a great touch.”

Vincenzo’s (named after Giuseppe’s father and son) has already taken on a bustling nature with lines often spanning from the front door to the order counter in the back. Giuseppe and staff work non-stop, creating one carefully handcrafted sandwich after another while still finding time to greet new and old customers – the latter from Vincenzo’s great run for 13 years in Dedham Square.

Long shelves of imported Italian food products for sale line the walls, as well as welcoming Italian words and phrases. Signature sandwiches from its impressive menu include Panino, Italian, Caprese and Copocollo, all made on large homemade ciabatta. Focaccia items feature Porchetta, Genovese, Romano, Napolitana, Toscana, and Caprese. The hot menu offers chicken parm, eggplant parm, meatball subs, chicken Portofino and homemade arancini. Additionally, Vincenzo’s offers pizza on its menu.
